WCLO & WWLL: Collegiate League Management & Statistics Database

Role: Platform & Database Developer
•
Timeline: Multi-Season Platform
•

01. The Result

Built and maintained a sports database platform that automates multi-division tournament schedules, team rosters, live scores, and calculated player statistics.

02. Core Constraints

Collegiate sports leagues require rapid weekend updates across dozens of simultaneous games. Standings calculations (points, goals against, tiebreakers) must execute deterministically without manual spreadsheet errors.

03. Three Key Decisions

1. Relational League Architecture

Structured database schema linking divisions, teams, venues, referees, game events, and individual player stats.

2. Automated Standings & Stat Engines

Wrote algorithms to automatically calculate division rankings, head-to-head records, and cumulative offensive/defensive metrics upon score confirmation.

3. Mobile Game Day Views

Created responsive mobile views for players and coaches to check real-time field locations, start times, and tournament brackets on game days.

04. Tradeoff

Prioritized fast relational database performance and query caching over complex client-side UI frameworks, ensuring lightning-fast loads during high-traffic tournament weekends.

05. Numbers & Status

Operating in active season use across multi-division US collegiate tournaments at https://wclo.us/.
